Fill in the AWB or create it from an order
Go through the steps: parties, route, cargo and charges. Or generate the AWB from an existing transport order. Shipper, consignee, cargo lines and currency are copied automatically.

Everything you need for an air waybill
AWB from a transport order
Stop entering data twice. Shipper, consignee, pieces, weight, dimensions and description of goods carry over from the order to the air waybill.
Automatic chargeable weight and totals
Volumetric weight is calculated from dimensions or volume (6000 cm³ per kg) and rounded up to 0.5 kg. The weight charge, other charges and prepaid and collect totals are worked out for you.
Checks before you send
The app validates the AWB number check digit and routing, and checks the format of 3-letter IATA airport codes. An incomplete air waybill cannot be sent or signed.
Free e-signature
Collect signatures from the shipper and the issuing carrier or its agent, on the free plan too.
Email delivery
Send the finished AWB as a PDF to your customer, agent or carrier right from the app.
QR code and barcode
The printout carries a barcode with the AWB or HAWB number and a QR code that leads to the document in the system.
Free e-signature to confirm air waybills
Confirm the AWB with your shipper or agent without printing, scanning and sending photos back and forth. In logistics-docs you sign the AWB electronically, either yourself or by inviting the other party by email. You still print the originals for the carrier.
Create AWB for free- Sign the document yourself or send it for signing
- Signatures of the shipper and the issuing carrier or its agent
- The AWB is checked for completeness before signing
- E-signature available on the free plan too
What is an air waybill?
An air waybill (AWB) is the main transport document for international air cargo. It is evidence of the contract of carriage between the shipper and the carrier and of the receipt of goods for carriage. Unlike a bill of lading, an air waybill is not negotiable and does not transfer title to the goods. Carriage by air is governed mainly by the Montreal Convention of 1999 and the earlier Warsaw Convention.
An air waybill is issued in three originals: the first for the issuing carrier (signed by the shipper), the second for the consignee (signed by the shipper and the carrier) and the third for the shipper (signed by the carrier after accepting the goods).
A master air waybill (MAWB) is issued by the airline or its agent for the whole shipment. Its number has 11 digits: a 3-digit airline prefix and an 8-digit serial number whose last digit is a check digit. A house air waybill (HAWB) is issued by a freight forwarder to each shipper in a consolidation.
The key AWB fields are: shipper and consignee, the issuing carrier's agent with its IATA code, airports of departure and destination, routing, handling information, number of pieces, gross weight, rate class (M, N, Q, C, R, S), chargeable weight, rate, nature and quantity of goods, charges prepaid or collect and the signatures of the shipper and the carrier.
Frequently asked questions about air waybills online
Can I create an air waybill online for free?
+
Yes. The logistics-docs free plan never expires and lets you create air waybills, CMR consignment notes, transport orders and packing lists, sign them electronically and send them by email. No credit card required.
Can I issue a house air waybill (HAWB)?
+
Yes. When creating the document you choose a master air waybill (MAWB) or a house air waybill (HAWB). For a HAWB you enter the HAWB number, the master AWB number of the consolidation and the forwarder as the issuer.
How is chargeable weight calculated?
+
Chargeable weight is the greater of the gross weight and the volumetric weight (pieces × length × width × height in cm divided by 6000). The app calculates it automatically and rounds it up to 0.5 kg. For weight-break rates you can override it, for example charge 40 kg at the Q45 rate as 45 kg.
Can I create an AWB from a transport order?
+
Yes. Use the Generate action on a transport order, and shipper, consignee, cargo lines with pieces, weight and dimensions, and currency are filled in automatically. Then add the AWB number, issuing carrier, airports, routing and rates.
Who signs an air waybill?
+
The shipper (or its agent) and the issuing carrier (or its agent). In logistics-docs you can sign the AWB yourself or send it to the other party for signing.
Is this an e-AWB?
+
No. logistics-docs doesn't send e-AWB (FWB) messages to airlines. Print the air waybill originals for the carrier.
Does the app check the AWB number?
+
Yes. An AWB number must have 11 digits; the app verifies its check digit and won't let you save the air waybill if the same number is already used on another one.
Can I send an air waybill by email?
+
Yes. You can email the finished air waybill as a PDF directly from the app.
